Call to order 3:55

 

Motion to accept minutes from March – 2nd and passed

 

Committee Reports – Request for donations: WC Golf Team $250 – passed.

 

Grievance – No updates at this time.

 

School Reform – PEAC meeting in Hartford Wed. April 5, 2017 Dave will testify at the State Board of Education.  Proposal to the State Board of Education is not to include SBAC in teacher evaluations.

 

Treasurer Report – No update at this time.

 

Community Action – NHFT is preparing a teacher-student-parent-admin campaign to run on buses and billboards to recognize overall efforts in education spotlighting achievements.  Update in May.  Contact committee members Derek Stephenson or Todney Harris with any contributions or success stories.

 

Security – Teachers are being asked to please report any incidents of violence based actions they incur from their students.  Please report any gun or drug incidents.  Please wear your identification badge at all times.

 

Old Business – Motion to move agenda item up on the order – 2nd and passed.  Proposed charter school by Rev. Boise Kimber will now move forward as a New Haven BOE school with an MOU.   Executive Board members have met with representatives to express our concerns and to fact find.  Thank you to Iris Festa, Jennifer Wells-Jackson, Todney Harris, Derek Stephenson, Dave and Tom for their continued efforts.  More to follow.

 

New Business – New Haven May Day Committee – Eric Maroney - A resolution was presented to the Board.  Motion to accept – 2nd and passed.  Hard copies will be handed out to stewards at the April 25th meeting to share with all members.

 

Chris Willems – Engagement and policy report – 41 teachers bused to Hartford on Friday March 24th and others drove to attend the rally and hearings on educational issues that will affect us all.  Other events are planned.  Handouts will be given to stewards to share in their buildings at the April 25th meeting. 

 

End of year party is Monday June 26th from 2-6.   Dave will send out flyers to all.

 

Social worker shortage – please make the union aware.  Possible use of retirees to help out.

 

Collateral duty assignments using teachers as subs.  Please contact Dave or Tom.  These issues are resolved on a school by school / case by case basis.
