Call to order 3:55 p.m.

 

Motion to accept the minutes for January – 2nd and passed.  There were no February minutes due to poor weather conditions.

 

Committee Reports - Political Action Committee – Chris Willems, Todney Harris, Melody Gallagher and Kristen Palmieri.  AFT-CT Legislative conference was held 2-25-17.  The group is monitoring numerous Bills and Resolutions that are on the docket this session in Hartford.  Many will affect education and school budgets.

Friday, March 4th – Appropriations meeting in Hartford.  NHFT is running staggered after school buses to get our members  there in mass to the hearings.   More to follow… motion was made – 2nd and passed to cover transportation cost for this event.

 

Finance – P. DeLucia – Donations approved for the following:  WC Hall of Fame $100, Co-op Talent Haven Production $500, Farnam House $300, Kings of Harlem Play $500 and CT AFL-CIO $250

 

Treasurer Report – M. Pantaleo & D. Cicarella – End of the year report was presented – motion to approve – 2nd and passed.  2017 budget was presented – motion to approve – 2nd and passed.

 

Security – J.P. Wilson – Please report all crimes that occur in your schools, Black market phone sales have been discovered in more schools, More weapons and drugs are appearing in schools, $35 is the lost key charge – new policy may be forthcoming. Need to use school ID at all times, code of conduct revision still has not been approved. Stewards will be asked to gather data, lock down drills continue and report all student or staff crimes of a sexual nature.

 

New Business – Calendar 2017-18 – Dave has sent a letter to all teachers with an explanation of the ACES Regional calendar – Awaiting approval from Dr. Mayo and BOE.

 

NHFT will now have its own website in addition to being a part of the AFT CT website.  Check us out at newhaventeacher933.org

 

Student survey did not have NHFT input.  Dave will meet with Dr. Mayo to discuss our serious concerns about the document and use.  Memo from Dave to all teachers will follow on both student and teacher surveys.

 

TIF grant will be ending.  Letter will go out to all teachers from Talent office that in Sept. there will be no more TIF funded stipends.

 

Proposed Charter School by Rev. Boise Kimber – Ex. Bd. discussed at length and members stated questions and concerns.  Serious issues also as to how it was listed in the Magnet book and how a booth for the school  was obtained at the magnet fair.  Dave and two Ex. Bd. Members will meet with Rev. Kimber and his board to have all our concerns addressed by Thursday, March 16th.  Motion was made to not endorse the school at this time  and the motion was amended to wait until after the meeting by both sides.  If a vote is then needed then an emergency board meeting will be held the week of March 20th.
