  1. Special Presentations:
    • Jeff Albert & Dr. James Barber presented on New Haven Scholarship Program:
      1.   100% of donations are used exclusively for student scholarships, not for administrative costs
      2. The Board of Directors is all volunteer; several of whom were recipients of the scholarship
      3.    In 60 plus years over $9.5 million has been awarded to over 8,500 New Haven students
      4. If you are interested in donating you can do so through payroll deduction or a direct donation
    • LGBTQ Task force presentative David Weinreb will be offering trainings to staff.  Outreach is needed in this area to spread the word of the trainings.  The union will support this effort by providing the union office space for these trainings and coffee, bottled water, and a light snack.

    • Meeting minutes accepted

  • The ballots for the re-run election will be mailed at the end of this week and should begin arriving in teacher’s home mail boxes (US mail) next week, most likely Monday or Tuesday.
  • The 2020 legislative conference will take place on February 29th.
  • There are numerous AFT workshops coming up.   If interested you can go to the AFT website and register.  They are all held in Rocky Hill and are approximately 2 hours in length.  If you have questions, contact Marianne.
  • Jane Roth spoke on behalf of teachers to legislators requesting they look deeper at laws protecting students through the manifestation of disability act.  Teachers need protection against acts of violence as well.
  • Melody Gallagher attended the delegate meeting and reported back on the various issues discussed.  Legal:  Espinosa v Montana case. Political: 2020 conference coming up, along with regional meetings being held Saturdays during March. Financial:  AFT monthly treasury report available to review.  All donation requests should be sent directly to AFT CT.

V. Safety and Security

  • Nothing to report.

V1. President Report

  • Ballots will be sent out Friday, the count will be held on February 27th.  The election committee and trustees are in charge of the election and decision making
  • Grievances: there are two:
    1. Co-op High School is at step 3 in the process of a grievance due to not holding SPMT meetings.  The grievance will not be removed until Co-op begins holding regular scheduled SPMT meetings
    2. Diaper Changing:  Teachers do NOT change diapers.  This is a non-negotiable stance by the union.  Clear established practice that teachers should not change diapers.  This is not a “comply and grieve” issue.  The only circumstance that a teacher should do a diaper change is in an emergency.

New Business

  • The personnel roster booklet will be coming out and teacher addresses will no longer be listed in the book.
  • The sick bank enrollment is complete.
  • April 29th is primary elections and the school buildings will be used for these elections.  It is being determined if school will be closed for teachers, no decision has been made as of yet.

V11. Adjournment

  • David Cicarella adjourned the meeting at 5:13pm
